Is it enough to repost a logo, buy a product, or spotlight Black entrepreneurs for one month out of the year? What if celebration looked more like commitment—deep, sustained, and rooted in repair?

As July rolls in and the country prepares to mark Independence Day, we’re reflecting on the weight of the word independence in contrast to the power of interdependence. Maybe freedom isn’t something we claim alone, but something we grow together—nurtured through connection, care, and collective power.

This month, as we celebrate Black Music Month and Juneteenth, we’re reflecting on what it means to move in rhythm—with community, with justice, and with purpose.

As extractive systems tighten their grip—from harmful policies that strip away our rights to an economy that continues to disinvest in Black communities—RUNWAY remains steadfast in our commitment to reparative capital as a path toward healing, justice, and collective care.

This Women’s History Month, we honor the foremothers who came before us––visionaries who transformed labor into movements, built economic alternatives when shut out of mainstream systems, and proved that financial power = political power.

Black History Month has always been a time for reflection, celebration, and truth-telling. But this year, it arrives in a moment of deep uncertainty. With the return of a political administration that has openly attacked diversity, equity, and inclusion—and with growing threats to Black, queer, and trans lives—we are reminded that history is something we all have an active role in shaping.
